Position Summary
Perform all relevant activities in preparation of the hourly payroll for Michigan and Oregon plants; administer insurance and benefit programs; administer FMLA and disability claims; facilitate pension requests; track and administer union membership; administer hourly union attendance and vacation/sick accruals; and oversee the employee discipline process. Provide HR support in recruiting, orientation, employee functions, and training. Confidentiality and accuracy are vital in this position.
Essential Functions
- Pre-audit input data, verify output data in daily payroll and file maintenance
- Ensure accurate preparation and balancing of payroll and summaries
- Have a firm understanding of union contracts – as it relates to payroll, ensure employee paychecks conform to said contracts
- Maintain up-to-date employment and wage records on hourly plant personnel
- Compile / prepare other payroll data – insurance, garnishments, etc.
- Ensure FMLA (Family Medical Leave) tracking, allocation, and documentation is accurately completed and processed
- Compile / maintain records for use in employee benefit administration
- Prepare / ensure accuracy for Accounts Payable on all payroll-related check requests
- Investigate / correct employee complaints as related to payroll / benefits
- Track attendance and direct warranted disciplinary action regarding employee absences
- Facilitate the progressive employee disciplinary process, including union correspondence and keeping the log updated
- Communicate with proper agencies regarding employment status of current / former employees
- Maintain Payroll Procedures manual
- File documents in personnel files
- Assist all employees with work and personal issues
- Provide backup to HR Administrator with recruiting, orientation, and training.
- Compile monthly and annual reports for Operations, Audits, etc.
- Perform other tasks as requested
