Seasonal Field Scout / Field Representative Internship
Seneca Foods is recruiting a seasonal Field Representative/Crop Scout for the upcoming Northwest seed harvest this summer.
This internship is based out of our Dayton, WA seed facility and will gain hands-on industry experience working with our location management team during the shell pea, garden/lima bean, and hybrid sweet corn seed harvest season.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor planting operations in accordance with management directed best practices.
- Maintains all applicable records related to contracting and consulting.
- Monitors growers' fields for crop health, weed growth, pest infestation, and seed moisture levels to assist with key crop management decisions such as irrigation timing, detasselling (sweet corn), swathing, and harvest timing.
- Assist with communication and logistics of seed delivery to the seed plant.
- Data collection, entry, and evaluation for estimating crops.
- Develops a relationship with owners of leased land, equipment dealers, material suppliers, growers, and community to ensure the best interests are realized.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Major in Agriculture or hands-on Farming/Agricultural experience. Production of shell pea, garden bean, lima bean, hybrid sweet corn, or other seed crops experience is preferred, but not required.
- Must have good attention to detail and accuracy.
- Willingness and ability to work and function in a team environment.
- Ability to effectively communicate both written and verbally.
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
- Ability to prioritize time and travel to grower fields efficiently and safely. Work is outdoors and at times is subject to work around farm machinery, high temperatures, dust, and noise.
- Computer skills (Microsoft office software).
- Valid driver’s license.
- The season runs approximately from March through September.
- Locations for the internship: Columbia Basin, Walla Walla, Tri Cities, WA / Greater Treasure Valley area, ID.
This is a paid internship – The expected compensation range for this position is $18.00-$20.00 per hour, depending on skills and experience.
The position is seasonal during the planting and harvest season; March 1 through September 30 is preferred, however there is some flexibility within this timeframe available.
