POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for managing the operation of the agriculture department at a Seneca location to ensure the procurement and delivery of raw product to the manufacturing plant according to production requirements and consistent with corporate goals and policies. Deliver raw product at the lowest cost, with the best quality and service.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, OR JOB DUTIES

• Develop, promote, and maintain good company relations with growers, industrial and professional groups, and communities throughout the growing area to ensure the company's best interests are realized.

• Coordinate scheduling of direct materials to obtain production requirements to ensure efficient and timely operations

• Manage planting, harvesting, and delivery of raw product to facility

• Establish a plan and implement a system to manage grower contracts to achieve business and crop goals.

• Plan, develop, and establish a pest control program and ensure its successful implementation. 

• Prepare and submit budgets to meet corporate goals.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Other duties as required or assigned by Management.

• Anticipate setbacks and establish contingency plans to ensure delivery of raw product.

• Provide dependable leadership for continuous improvement in cost, quality, service, people, and

environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Good written and oral communication skills

• Management, motivational, and decision-making skills

• Knowledgeable in equipment, maintenance, department operation, energy conservation, company policies and regulatory policies

• Knowledge of compliance with all state and federal environmental regulations

• BS in Agriculture or related field

EXPERIENCE

• 6 to 8 years’ experience in an agricultural setting with supervisory and budgeting experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS – The actions listed below identify the physical efforts required for the incumbent to competently perform the essential duties and/or functions of the job 30% of the time or more. The physical requirements listed are not intended to be all-inclusive.

Hand Movement, Sitting, Crawling, Reading, Writing, Twisting/Turning, Pushing/Pulling, Hand/Eye Coordination, Bending, Standing, Climbing        

Ability to drive company vehicles.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Working environment varies from an office setting to outdoors. Walking and standing for extended periods of time.  Significant Travel required.  Noise levels vary depending on work setting.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Personal Protective Equipment is based on the work environment.  Bump cap, eye and ear protection, and gloves.  Seat belts are required when operating a company vehicle.

ACCOUNTABILITY

The decisions made by the agriculture department have a direct impact on the operations of the plant and our ability to process and harvest product.  Planting schedules, seed varieties used, chemical applications and harvesting operations directly affect annual costs, quality, and budget goals.

Work duties are performed under minimal supervision. Details of the job are performed within broad guidelines. Exercises considerable initiative and independent judgment.
